Who am I? Well, that depends on who you ask, what I’m doing and what your expectations are. But in any given circumstance, you can Call Me Quirky. Its a moniker that has followed me most of my life from the school yard, the classroom, the workplace, amongst friends, family, strangers alike from the shores of foreign lands to the local coffeehouse.
I have a coffee “obsession.” Merriam-Webster describes addiction as:
Full Definition of addiction:
1: the quality or state of being addicted<addiction to reading>
2: compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly: persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful.
Notice the wise people at Merriam-Webster have stated an addiction is a compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful. I believe coffee, without research or merit, has health benefits and is in no way harmful so thereby making it an obsession and not an addiction. The rest, however, holds true.
